American University is a private coeducational Student-Faculty interactive doctoral institution with a liberal arts curriculum. American University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and recognized by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church.
The Challenge:
As an institution of higher education, American University is required to comply with a complex variety of federal, state and local laws, regulations and University policies. Some of these impose significant requirements ranging from reporting to disclosure obligations, to limitations on how the University conducts business. The consequences of being noncompliant can be serious, including large fines, criminal penalties, and other severe repercussions that may ultimately end up damaging the integrity of American University entirely.
The Solution:
Incorporating American University’s process design, Five Star developed a Compliance Portal making it easy to track compliance obligations. The Portal allows American University to electronically store relevant documents with the associated compliance and email reminders are automatically sent to compliance owners to mitigate the risk of missing a due date for important submissions. The goal was to assist and facilitate fulfilling compliance responsibilities by creating a system and process to consolidate and monitor the University’s existing decentralized compliance efforts.
