Case Study 8 – Insurance Company Graduate On-boarding Program

A $1.7B insurance, banking, and related financial services group of businesses that provides commercial and personal insurance in 19 states and surety services to customers in 28 states, through a network of more than 1,200 leading independent insurance agencies.

The challenge:

Our client was re-designing their six month new associate on-boarding process to train new hires on the company’s business and product lines via a three-month, intensive boot camp. Our client had some training material developed that required extensive updates and indentified a series of new courses that needed to be developed. Our client did not have the capacity to develop the courses internally and had a very short project timeframe.

The solution:

Five Star’s Lead Consultant met with internal subject matter experts and analyzed existing materials. A Detailed Course Design Document was created for each course which enabled the project team to streamline the course development process. Efficiency was gained by framing design decisions in a reference guide so that multiple instructional designers could work simultaneously on different courses, ensuring a consistent design across the curriculum.

Results:

The final result was the design and development of 8 courses over a three-month timeframe. The courses incorporated the extensive use of case studies as real-world practice activities. Based on the success of the program, Five Star was contracted to develop an additional 12 courses.
