Tell us a little about yourself:
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and absolutely love this city. I earned my Computer Engineering bachelor's degree from Pitt and spent the last 16 years as a Software Developer, Team Leader and Development Manager around the Pittsburgh area.
I'm an engineer at heart and strive to continuously learn and improve. My incredible wife and I have been married for 19 years and are fortunate to have 2 amazing kids. One is now an adult and the other just started high school.
What's an interesting fact about yourself?
I use hockey pucks for many things outside of an ice rink. I'm a life-long ice hockey player and I coached amateur hockey for 10 years, so I have a lot of pucks. I'm constantly working on home renovations and always finding new uses for them. They are so versatile! A puck is exactly 1 inch thick, 3 inches in diameter, does not conduct electricity, is impervious to water/rust and is extremely durable! Great tool with endless possibilities.
"Goalie is not a position, it's an obsession!"
What brought you to fivestar*?
I was on the hunt for a new opportunity with a quality company, and timing was on my side. Fivestar was looking for a Software Development Manager and the opening was not publicly listed. When Angel (fivestar*'s Director of HR and Talent Management) bumped into a mutual friend, she told him about the position and he said "I have the perfect person for you". After a couple online video meetings, I knew this was a great group of people and a solid company. I knew I could utilize my skills and experience to help drive the team forward, and that I would fit right in. Obviously, the fivestar team agreed.
What's your role at fivestar*?
My role is to be a contributing team member and team leader, in all activities related to the software we develop. I'll be working to expand our use of current technologies, facilitate professional development, enhance team culture, improve our processes and provide clear goals to meet our objectives. And of course, get quality software into the hands of our clients, on time and within budget.
What are you most excited to get started on?
There is not one thing in particular. We have a few really cool projects and more in the pipeline. I like that my position gets me involved in all of them. I am excited to dive in and see how I can contribute to our success.
I'm also excited to meet everyone face-to-face and step into the office for the first time. The current pandemic has created some challenges and it's very difficult getting to know the team in a 100% remote environment. But fivestar* is handling the transition well and I'm excited for what the future holds.
