FIVESTAR* CASE STUDY

Tri-State Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Consortium (TEAM) - Career Pathways for Energy and Advanced Manufacturing

THE CHALLENGE

The tristate region of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia is experiencing a new wave of economic activity in energy and advanced manufacturing. Funded by grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission, Benedum Foundation, and Chevron Foundation the Tristate Energy and Advanced Manufacturing (TEAM) Consortium was formed to respond to the need for a properly trained workforce for these industries. TEAM brings together partners from industry, higher education, workforce, and economic development across 27 counties to build clear and accessible pathways to energy and manufacturing jobs in the region.

THE SOLUTION

TEAM contracted fivestar* to develop the consortium’s website that informs prospective employees about the benefits and opportunities related to working in the advanced manufacturing and energy industries, and connects them with education, training, and workforce development partners, who can help align them with specific programs and opportunities. The site is built using a content management system and is fully responsive. This innovative workforce development platform educates prospective employees on the opportunities about the advanced manufacturing and energy industries; creates a collaborative space for partners to showcase opportunities and the work that they are doing in the region; and creates a pipeline of prospective employees by connecting them with training and education resources.

THE IMPACT

The website has been integral to TEAM Consortium’s ability to expand awareness in the tri-state region. This was particularly valuable as part of COVID-related outreach.

Utilizing a low-cost, licensed content management system enables the client to make ongoing updates using basic word processing skills.

THE TECHNOLOGY

The front-end was developed using HTML and CSS/SASS for all visual components, managed and presented within an Angular single page web application (SPA) that leverages the TypeScript and JavaScript languages. The back-end was developed in the Kentico Cloud headless CMS platform to allow all CMS content to appear immediately upon publishing. The use of a headless CMS also enables standard web content to be delivered to a wide range of devices by seamlessly integrating it with the custom built front end.

Why a custom solution?

The consortium’s requirements evolve with the changing business and economic needs of its members. A custom solution allows for specific features to be added, based on what’s most impactful to the membership.
