The Need

The Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) is a regional public education agency that is a crucial part of Pennsylvania's public education system. AIU3 provides specialized services to Allegheny County's suburban school districts as well as non-public, charter, and vocational-technical schools.  AIU engaged fivestar* to completely redesign and develop their legacy PA-Educator.edu site which puts tools and resources in the hands of stakeholders to better communicate jobs, job requirements, and available resources in the community. PA-Educator also helps employers connect with the right applicants through the AIU up-front verification process of the applicant’s Standard Application for Teaching in PA Public Schools. The requirements for the site’s user experience and design have evolved over the years, with a migration to mobile browsers as the dominant form of interacting with the web by job seekers and the evolution of SEO and accessibility practices.

The Solution

fivestar* developed a new PA-Educator site using modern, supported frameworks that provide a new level of site longevity. The core architecture prioritizes the ability to continue to grow PA-Educator through new features, functionality, introduction and integration of new technologies, and content. Underlying the interface and user experience design is a robust cloud-based architecture, leveraging Microsoft’s powerful, dynamic, and scalable Azure environment.

The Impact

In 2024, through a competitive bid process, fivestar* was selected as AIU’s development partner for the modernization project for AIU’s public website https://www.aiu3.net. fivestar*’s winning approach was using WordPress, known for its user-friendly interface, making it easy for AIU’s in-house marketing communications team to manage all aspects of the site including ADA compliance, updating content, adding pages, and making changes with minimal training. The site was launched in August 2024 and has received overwhelmingly positive responses from internal and external stakeholders alike.
